International man of mystery, Anil Gaba, was born in India and received his PhD in Decision Sciences from Duke University in the USA. He then spent many years as a professor for INSEAD in France, before moving to the school’s Asia Campus in Singapore, where he is currently the ORPAR Chaired Professor of Risk Management and holds the post of Dean of Faculty for the entire institution.
As Dean of Faculty, Anil has developed the unique skill of disappearing. This extraordinary facility enables him to carry on his research into decision analysis, Bayesian statistics, tournaments and contests, and risk management – trying to reconcile behavioral and rational theories – largely under cover of darkness. During daylight hours, he also finds time to direct INSEAD’s Centre for Decision Making and Risk Analysis, besides managing faculty and research at the institution.
As well as performing research and genie-like disappearing acts, Anil teaches several courses at INSEAD. He has won the school’s award for best MBA teacher eight times. His articles have appeared in the popular press as well as in academic journals, and he is a regular consultant and speaker for multinational companies, especially in the financial services sector. He is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Board for the Royal Bank of Scotland Business School.
Elusive Anil lives with his wife and daughter in Singapore, where he likes to play tennis, listen to all kinds of music, and sample the offerings of the city’s many outstanding restaurants. He also has something of a reputation for drinking and gambling. This may or may not be justified, but it certainly enhances his aura of mystery.
